Listing Standards
New applications to the Melbourne West Business Directory are reviewed against the same published entry standards before they are listed. This helps visitors find genuine local businesses — but it does not guarantee workmanship, outcomes, or constitute an endorsement by the directory or by other listed members. Existing founding businesses are not necessarily individually re-vetted under the current application process.
Identity & entity checks
We confirm the business name, legal entity (where supplied), and at least one valid ABN or ACN. Format and checksum are checked automatically; actual identity and entity matching is confirmed by an administrator during review.
Evidence of work
All applicants provide at least one publicly accessible link — a review, recommendation, testimonial or case study — so we can check it without calling or emailing references. Newer businesses may use relevant previous professional experience or testimonials, and explain how it relates. Examples of work are optional. We do not impose a minimum star rating or review count.
Local service relevance
The business should genuinely service Melbourne's western suburbs. Applicable industry licences or registrations are checked where relevant, or noted as not applicable.
Paid promotion is separate
Approval establishes eligibility for a standard listing only. Payment never bypasses vetting. The optional Featured plan is a paid promotion added after approval — it does not affect whether a business is admitted.
The review process
- You submit an application. Submitting does not publish your listing — it is saved privately for an administrator to review.
- An administrator reviews identity, website, local service relevance, applicable credentials, quality evidence, and your logo and public listing details.
- If more information is needed, your application is marked “More information needed” and you'll be contacted to provide it.
- Once the standards are met, your application is approved and your free standard listing is published. If it does not meet the standards it is declined, with a reason.
Standard listings are free
An approved standard listing is free. There is no charge to apply, and no charge to be listed once approved.
Optional Featured Business add-on
Featured Business is an optional paid add-on at $10 AUD per month. Featured businesses appear with a badge and a subtle card highlight, rank ahead of other matching local results, and may be shown in the homepage Featured placement. You can express interest when you apply — no payment is collected during your application, and expressing interest does not create a subscription, authorise a charge, or guarantee approval or placement. After your standard listing is approved, the directory arranges and confirms Featured payment with you separately, then activates it manually.
What we don't promise
We do not guarantee website traffic, customer enquiries, revenue, a specific review turnaround time, or any particular outcome from being listed. Listing does not imply an endorsement of the business or its workmanship. Always exercise your own judgement when choosing a business.
